About the Role
We are building a bench of junior AI engineers and automation specialists who deliver agentic solutions, automations and AI-native software across WebLife's ventures and allintalent's clients. As Tech Lead, you will lead and develop this bench while building alongside it—owning the more complex agentic and AI builds yourself, setting technical direction, architecture and standards, and guiding the team day to day. This is a founding leadership role: you will grow graduates into strong engineers and future technologists and shape how the team scales. It is a full-time, fully remote position for someone with 5+ years of engineering experience.
Responsibilities:
- Set technical direction and standards for the bench, defining architecture patterns for agentic workflows and automations along with coding, review, testing, documentation and deployment standards.
- Map processes with teams across the ventures to identify bottlenecks and automation opportunities, then build the solution yourself or scope it for the bench.
- Build the more complex solutions hands-on: agentic and AI-powered workflows that connect systems and data, business process automations, and full-stack development where needed.
- Allocate work across ventures with venture and project leads—scoping incoming work, matching engineers to it, and keeping priorities, capacity and delivery visible.
- Guide delivery by reviewing solution designs and code, pairing with engineers and unblocking them on hard problems so the bench ships to a high standard.
- Manage client augmentation engagements: match and onboard engineers placed with ventures and allintalent clients, check in with stakeholders on performance and fit, and resolve escalations.
- Track and report delivery outcomes (time saved, manual work eliminated, turnaround, error rates, client satisfaction) and the bench's skill progression to leadership.
- Lead, hire and develop the bench—partnering with recruitment to select graduates and specialists, building structured growth paths from graduate to senior engineer, and developing future team leads from within.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of software engineering experience building production LLM systems, including 2+ years scaling an engineering team from the ground up.
- Hands-on experience designing and building AI solutions end to end using LLMs and AI agents, automation platforms (n8n, Zapier, Make), Python, SQL, REST APIs and integrations.
- Full-stack development and cloud deployment experience.
- Strong business and process thinking: able to map how a process works, spot automation opportunities and turn them into solutions with measurable value.
- Experience setting engineering standards and running code and design reviews for a team.
- Experience managing delivery across multiple stakeholders or projects at once, including scoping, prioritisation and capacity planning.
- Working knowledge of responsible AI, data privacy, security and governance practices for AI and automation work.
- Preferred: experience with US, UK, European or Australian teams or clients; in a services, agency or staff-augmentation model; and leading fully remote or distributed teams.
